1973 Longhair Invasion Fundraiser for Eureka Springs Historical Museum

We had such a great time being a part of  the 1973 Longhair Invasion Fundraiser for Eureka Springs Historical Museum. When I was growing up, I remember wearing my mom’s bell-bottom pants and bandana shirts, wishing that was still the style. Moving to Eureka Springs takes me back to that time, because most everyone here still dresses like it is the ’70, and I’m here for it. I am lucky to be able to dress any way I want without the “look”, now that I live in Eureka. I found it funny that I didn’t need to buy a costume for this event. All I had to do was look in my closet. I told a few people at the event, and they laughed, but I was serious.

We were so busy that I failed to take any pictures at this event. I didn’t get the chance to go through the awesome setup the Museum put on, but from what I heard, it was fantastic. There was a karaoke contest, and my very good friend John Rankie won it! Yay John!!!! I’ve included some photos from the Museum’s Facebook page. Image credit goes to Harrison Sutcliffe, the photographer.

We love the museum here and the rich history it shows. The people who work at the museum do so much for the community and work hard to make the museum an immersive experience in Eureka Springs culture. If you are in town, definitely take the self-guided tour. It is worth it.

WHERE is it?

The event is being hosted at the Inn of the Ozarks Convention Center, located behind the Best Western Inn of the Ozarks at 207 W. Van Buren in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, just off of Highway 62. Free parking is available on-site.

What to WEAR?

This is a costumed event, with 1973 themed attire being encouraged for all guests. If we look to the FolkFair for inspiration, we see the usual bell bottoms and denim, but with a more utilitarian farm flair. Sometimes this was called the “cosmic cowboy” look. Bandanas and flannels were quite popular. If you will be competing in our LipSync Contest, you could also dress like the performer you will be imitating. Please be creative and have fun with your costumes!
