In The Cards, an Art Show at Brews

I recently got invited to participate in the group art exhibition, “In the Cards”, an art show at Brews in Eureka Springs. As soon as I heard the theme, I got an idea. I decided it would be fun to make the painting look like she was literally coming out of the frame. I added fairy lights to give the magic life. This was a huge undertaking, and at one point, I even stopped painting this piece and painted a different painting altogether. But Gesture Farcer nagged at me to finish her…and that I did.

Join us this Wednesday, April 15 at Brews for the opening of our newest group exhibition, In The Cards ♠️✨The opening reception is from 5 t0 8 p.m.
Curated by Jeri Stevens and Robert Beauford, this creative and eclectic show invites local artists to explore the theme of “cards” in all its forms — from playing cards and tarot cards to postcards, business cards, recipe cards, and beyond. Each piece offers a unique interpretation of something we encounter in everyday life, reimagined through artistic expression.
Come out and support an incredible lineup of local talent — you won’t want to miss this one!
This painting is my piece for the upcoming show “In the Cards” at Brews . Artists were asked to use any sort of card as inspiration. My inspiration came from the joker in a deck of playing cards, and the tarot Fool card, which she holds in her hand.
Art opening is this Wednesday.

And now I present to you…”I Pity the Fool”
“I Pity the Fool”

Acrylic, mixed media

20×24

Gesture Farcer was a French royal court jester-fous du roi- and maker of magic from the moment she drew her first breath until her final one.
Legend says her portrait became enchanted upon her death. If her image finds you worthy, she may choose a card—just for you. (She holds the Fool card)

And if you believe that… here is yours.

.How I chose the name “Gesture Farcer” Gesture is a play on words for the word “Jester” and “Farcer” is a French word for ‘jester” or “joker”. She was born in 1123, around the time jesters and court fools were introduced in the medieval era, and throughout the time Shakespeare began writing about jesters. She lived to the ripe old age of 666 until she was forever cursed to live as a joke in this painting in 1789.
